Julien's Victoire Bellevue

Julien's Victoire Bellevue

This Victoire Bellevue is unique on many ways. As a research project, this bike unveils one of the most important progress since the beginning of Victoire : the addition of a brand new paint booth inside the Victoire workshop. This Victoire is also built with the brand new Mavic MR801 hubs and CXP Carbon UST rims.

As a synthesis of our knowledge, this Victoire is also the archetype of the Victoire road bicycle. Like a sports car with an old fashioned mechanical gearbox, the specifications avoids the new technologies and focuses on essential features, to provide a light and fast machine : small diameter tubing, BSA bottom bracket, straight steerer carbon fork and the classic rim brakes. Campagnolo was the most logical choice for the transmission, with the really light Super Record groupset. Other parts comes from trusted brands, like Thomson with stem and seat post, or Fizik with bars and saddle.

During the last Roc d’Azur, Mavic invited us to share a meal with their road product development team, and we were not expecting such a surprise : developed in great disquiet, Mavic was about to reveal a high end solution especially for artisanal manufacturers, with top range rims and hubs made in Europe using their best expertise. In the last few years, Mavic started to focus on wheels, neglecting a little bit the artisanal market who likes hand spoked wheels. An artisanal wheel is a good to decide of the spokes amount and profile, the tension and the components to match the cyclist profile. This Victoire wheels have Mavic CXP Pro Carbon UST new rims. Tubeless compatible, these rims have a 40mm high profile. The braking surface has been laser-treated to get an outstanding braking performance. These rims are associated with Mavic MR801 hubs. There are Jérôme Fantin’s work, the engineer in charge with the conception of all hubs system at Mavic. These new ones remind of the famous Mavic 501 or 571, and use CNC machined components, large diameters sealed bearings, the Mavic QRM’ s system allows a friction free rotation and the ratched ID360 freewheel system offers a nice free wheel melody. Unlike the Mavic hubs that are mounted on complete wheels, these are compatible with angled spokes, allowing for hand spoking. They also have a very neat finish with matte or shiny black anodizing. Just like the major part of Victoire’s projects, these wheels have been hand spoked in our workshop using linseed oil. Vittoria Corsa Control new tires (here 28mm width) complete this extremely light and efficient machine.

In order to keep on striving for excellence in our steel and stainless steel custom-made bicycles, we eventually had to take care of our projects finishes. After months of research, developing and investing, our workshop now have its own paint booth, special made for artisanal frames painting. We still have a few adjustments to make but the overall is up and running and our bicycles will soon be painted in our workshop. This will offer a better quality control and enhance our reactivity. We will soon tell more about the paint booth in a special article. The bicycle presented here has been painted by Victoire founder Julien at our friends Cole Coatings in London, during his first training session. You can learn more about the painting of this project through Ian’s words by clicking here.
